They have been sent as part of a team of 68 UK search and rescue specialists deployed by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, who arrived over the weekend to assist rescue operations.
The contingent is made up of firefighters from 14 fire and rescue services from across the country.
As well as being a part of the search and rescue teams, the HIWFRS crew will be managing base operations for the UK firefighting personnel in Venezuela, ensuring the welfare and safety of those involved in the search and rescue operations during this vital time.

Group Manager Phil Foxton said:
“Our Urban Search and Rescue team are specially trained and equipped to help in situations like this, in their role with UKISAR.
“We are extremely proud of their commitment to drop everything at a moment’s notice to fly to the other side of the world to help others in dire need.
“The devastation caused by this earthquake is heart-breaking to see and our thoughts are with all those affected.”
Firefighters Barry Atkins, Josh Challis, Jim Hutchen, Chris Sellick and Spencer Harrison, are based across Hampshire in their day-to-day roles.
Our USAR team have formed part of the ISAR response to a number of disasters in recent years including earthquakes in Morocco and Turkey, flash floods in Mozambique and a building collapse in Jersey.
The team is self-sufficient upon arrival providing its own food, water, shelter, sanitation, communications and all necessary equipment. This is to ensure no additional burden is placed upon a country already suffering demands on its resources following a sudden onset disaster.
UKISAR is part of the National Fire Chiefs Council’s (NFCC) National Resilience Work and is on permanent standby to mobilise and assist when requested by disaster-affected countries.

National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) Chair, Phil Garrigan, said:
“The thoughts of everyone across the UK’s fire and rescue services are with those affected by the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela.
“In response to a request made through the UK Government, a team of highly trained UK firefighters and specialist medics has been deployed to support the international rescue effort.
“These firefighters bring exceptional skill, experience and dedication, and will work alongside local and international teams to provide vital search and rescue support where it is needed most, with the intent to help save lives in extremely challenging conditions.
“Their mission is clear and I know they will respond with focus, compassion and care.”
