The achievements of both of the Eastleigh and Gosport Fire Cadet groups were celebrated at two passing out parades this week.
On Monday (6 December) family and friends of Eastleigh Fire Cadets gathered for a small celebratory ceremony at Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service’s Learning and Development Centre in Eastleigh.
After a warm welcome from Chief Fire Officer Neil Odin, the cadets were presented with certificates by the Deputy Lieutenant on behalf of the Lord Lieutenant, who is Patron of the HIWFRS Fire Cadets.
On Wednesday (8 December) it was the turn of the Gosport cadets, with their family and friends welcomed to the passing out parade by Assistant Chief Fire Officer Stew Adamson, again presented with their certificates by the Deputy Lieutenant.
Both Eastleigh and Gosport groups performed drills during their ceremony to mark the end of their journey with the Fire Cadets programme.
The Volunteer Fire Cadet Instructors were also presented with certificates in recognition of the time and dedication they have given supporting the cadets.
During the programme the Fire Cadets have undertaken a mixture of challenges and training including firefighting drills, first-aid training and getting to grips with real life firefighting equipment. They have also represented the Service in community projects and learnt new skills such as teamwork, communication and leadership.
HIWFRS Fire Cadet Manager Melanie Walker-O’Hare said:
“I’d like to say a huge congratulations to all the Eastleigh and Gosport Fire Cadets for their enthusiasm, energy and commitment to each cadet unit during their time with us.
“As a Service we are incredibly proud of all they’ve achieved, especially during such challenging times, and we wish them all the best for the future.
“Thank you also to the family, friends and supporters of our Fire Cadets Programme and our amazing volunteer instructors.”
The nationally recognised programme for 13–17-year-olds gives cadets the opportunity to gain essential social, life and wellbeing skills, including a BTEC Level 2 qualification. It also gives them the chance to develop their confidence and personal skills as well as improve fitness.
The Service is currently looking for new recruits to join the Eastleigh and Gosport Fire Cadets Programme in January 2022. Find out more and get in touch.
