The achievements of Southsea, Ringwood and Rushmoor Fire Cadet groups were celebrated during three passing-out parades.
The celebrations kicked off with Southsea’s inaugural passing-out parade on Thursday 7 July. Family, friends, Fire Cadet instructors, senior fire officers, invited guests and HIWFRS colleagues gathered for a small celebratory ceremony where they were presented with certificates by HM Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire, and Patron of HIWFRS Fire Cadets, Nigel Atkinson.
On Wednesday 13 July it was time to celebrate the success of Rushmoor Fire Cadets. Each of the Fire Cadets was awarded with a certificate for their hard work and commitment by the Deputy Lieutenant.
The final passing-out parade was held on Friday 15 July to mark the achievements of the Ringwood Fire Cadets. The Ringwood Fire Cadets programme has been running for more than 20 years. The Deputy Lieutenant presented each Fire Cadet with a certificate to mark their achievements.
All groups performed drills during each ceremony to mark the end of their journey with the Fire Cadets.
The volunteer Fire Cadet instructors were also presented with certificates in recognition of the time and dedication they have given supporting the cadets.
During the programme the Fire Cadets have undertaken a mixture of challenges and training including firefighting drills, first-aid training and getting to grips with real life firefighting equipment. They have also represented the Service in community projects and learnt new skills such as teamwork, communication and leadership.
HIWFRS Fire Cadet manager Melanie Walker-O’Hare said:
“I’d like to say a huge congratulations to all the Fire Cadets at Southsea, Rushmoor and Ringwood for their enthusiasm, energy and commitment to each cadet unit during their time with us.
“As a Service we are incredibly proud of all they’ve achieved, and we wish them all the best for the future.
“Thank you also to the family, friends and supporters of our Fire Cadets programme and our amazing volunteer instructors.”
The nationally recognised programme for 13–17-year-olds gives Fire Cadets the opportunity to gain essential social, life and wellbeing skills, including a BTEC Level 2 qualification. It also gives them the chance to develop their confidence and personal skills as well as improve fitness.
The Service is currently looking for new recruits to join the Ringwood, Rushmoor, Southsea and Sandown Fire Cadets Programme in September 2022.
