A 51-year-old woman has died following a fire in Romsey.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to a house fire in Jacobs Close at 02:59 on Monday morning (February 04).

Three crews from Romsey, Redbridge and Eastleigh fire stations attended the incident in the first-floor bedroom of the two-storey house.

The firefighters used two sets of breathing apparatus, one hose reel and tactical ventilation to extinguish the fire. The stop message was received at 04:09.

The woman was confirmed dead at the scene by South Central Ambulance Service.

One male casualty was taken to University Hospital Southampton suffering smoke inhalation.

Firefighters returned to the property on Tuesday morning (February 05) to extinguish the fire which had reignited. A Romsey crew will reattend the scene to complete a further reinspection.

Smoke alarms provide valuable early warning of a fire, allowing families to get out, stay out and call 999. We ask that residents of Hampshire ensure they have working smoke alarms and test them regularly. If you suspect a fire don’t hesitate to call.
