A six-month-old calf was found stuck in a culvert at a farm in Lockersley near Romsey last week.

Animal rescue firefighters from Winchester, along with a crew from Redbridge, were on the scene at around 9am on Saturday to assist in the rescue operation.

The culvert was 60 metres in length with a diameter of half a metre, and the Aberdeen Angus calf was approximately 15 metres into the pipe.

The team were able to work out where the animal was, dig up the ground to reach the pipe and use a specialist disc cutter to access inside.

A local vet was then able to sedate the calf before animal rescue equipment was used to lift the calf out of the pipe.

The crews left the scene and returned station at around 2pm after the animal was handed back into the care of the farmers.
