What were you doing before you started with the Prince’s Trust team programme?

Before I decided to do the Princes Trust programme, I was unemployed. Evaluating what job opportunities were out there. I have had jobs in the past but hadn’t managed to keep a secure place for a long time.

What made you want to undertake the team programme?

As I’ve had jobs in the past, I don’t think the problem is getting a job but, previously I hadn’t managed to keep a secure place for a long time. I came on the programme to develop my skills, so I can keep a job for longer.

What did you want to gain from undertaking the team programme?

I wanted to gain skills around people. Being able to communicate better and working on my teamwork skills so I can keep a job for longer.

Have you enjoyed the Programme overall?

Yes, the programme was amazing. Every day was different, and I looked forward to what the next day would bring.

Have you enjoyed any specific parts of the Team Programme?   If yes, what was your favourite part?

Because of the skills I wanted to learn, I really enjoyed residential and also the community project. Residential was completely different to what I have done in the past and working as part of a team to complete challenges and cooking was great. This then helped us complete the community project. The weather was bad, and it was that teamwork that helped us get through it. The days with the firefighters were also great as it was good fun doing activities with the fire engines and equipment they use.

Have you learnt new skills?

The career planning was great just to add to my job searching skills already but the area I gained the most is teamwork. Nearly all the tasks are based around teamwork and now I think this will help me a lot when I go into the work place.

How are you going to put those new skills into action?

I have been offered a job from my work experience, so I will be putting the skills I have learnt into practice when I start.

Next Steps

I’ve been offered a job at my work placement company.

What were you doing before you started with the Prince’s Trust team programme?

I was looking for a job but couldn’t seem to get past the application stage.

What made you want to undertake the PT team programme?

While reading about it on Facebook, it stated that they will help find jobs for people who are unemployed. When meeting the Team Leader he said it was a great chance for me to learn some new skills and the course would also help with the application and interview stage of jobs.

What did you want to gain from undertaking the Team Programme?

How to present myself correctly around people and different scenarios and most importantly the course helped improve my teamwork skills. I also learnt about how to answer generic interview questions. I’m more confident as well.

Have you enjoyed the Programme overall?

Yeah, I made a decent group of mates and Harry the team leader was very supportive and made it as fun as possible. I also think the qualification will help me a lot.

Have you enjoyed any specific parts of the Team Programme?   If yes, what was your favourite part?

Residential was good because I was trying loads of different things which I haven’t tried before and also, I felt us come together as a team which made the community project better. The weather conditions during the community project were really bad and I think if we didn’t work as a team then we would have struggled to get through it. Completing this project gave me a great sense of pride.

Have you learnt new skills?

I have learnt phone skills and also mock interview practice, which has helped get interviews and hopefully will make me more likely to get a job.

How are you going to put those new skills into action?

I have applied for two jobs since and I personally feel my applications are a lot better now. I understand some generic interview/application questions that will come up and I can answer them better due to the mock interview and mock applications we did.

Next Steps (college, apprenticeship or employment)?

I really want to go into further education to study IT but during Covid-19 it is difficult to put any plans in place. I’m currently doing an online IT programme and applying for jobs.
