Hampshire firefighters tackle high-rise fire in Southampton

About 50 firefighters attended to battle the 12th floor blaze

A joint investigation is underway between Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and Hampshire Constabulary into the cause of a high-rise fire that broke out this evening.

 HFRS were called to the scene at 17:25 and deployed 10 fire engines as well as specialist vehicles including an aerial ladder platform and ultra-high pressure lance capability.

About 50 firefighters attended the address at Redbridge Towers on Cuckmere Lane, Southampton.

The fire was on the 12th floor.

HFRS worked with partners at Hampshire Constabulary, South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) and Southampton City Council (SCC) to ensure the safety of residents.

The fire was extinguished at about 18:28 and one flat was severely damaged by fire.

Group Manager Dan Tasker said: “I would like to thank our firefighters, and colleagues in Hampshire Constabulary, SCAS and SCC, for the professionalism, hard work and dedication they showed to keeping the residents of Hampshire safe.”

Nobody was seriously injured in the fire.
