An 82 year old woman has been found dead following a house fire in Farnborough.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the fire in Rectory Road, at 10.03am today (August 25) and informed by the caller that a person was believed to be inside.

Three crews from Rushmoor attended the incident and used breathing apparatus and a hose reel to extinguish the fire. The stop message was received at 10.47am.

The body of the woman was found in the building and she was confirmed dead by South Central Ambulance Service.

The cause of the fire is believed to have been an unextinguished cigarette.

Area Manager Stew Adamson, Head of Community Safety, said:

“Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.

“Anyone who sees or detects any sign of fire should raise the alarm and call 999 immediately.

“We would encourage anyone with elderly or vulnerable neighbours to keep an eye on their welfare and raise any concerns with the relevant agency.”
