High-rise cooking fire in Southampton
Description of Incident
Fire crews have extinguished a blaze in a high-rise flat in Southampton.
The fire was caused by a wok containing oil which had been left on the stove and was put out in less than an hour.
The fire and the building behaved as expected and the stay put policy of the building owner operated as it should.
It was confined to one flat on the 15th floor of Albion Towers, in Golden Grove, and nobody was injured in the incident.
We were called at 10.34am and eight fire engines attended, from St Mary’s, Hightown, Redbridge, Eastleigh and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service Headquarters, with other specialist vehicles.
Firefighters used breathing apparatus, jets and tactical ventilation to tackle the fire.
A small number of people from the top floor left the building, assisted by firefighters, during the incident but they are now back in their homes.
The stop message was at 11.23am.
