Sprinkler saves Southampton cinema from blaze
Crews from St Mary’s and Redbridge were called to reports of a fire at Southampton’s West Quay South, Showcase Cinema. The small fire occurred in a freezer unit and was extinguished by the buildings sprinkler system, before fire crews were called. The West Quay South building was evacuated by staff and crews were alerted by the buildings detection system. Unfortunately, the sprinkler which successfully distinguished the fire then leaked excess water, causing damage to the building. Crews cleared smoke left from the small fire and have been praised for their extensive salvage work, to remove water from the building reducing the amount of damage done.No one was hurt and crews handed over the building to West Quay management at 20:07.
