Ship fire in Southampton tackled by Hampshire firefighters
Crews from across Hampshire have been called to tackle a blaze onboard a ship at the docks in Southampton.At 13:51 firefighters were alerted to the fire involving 7000 tonnes of scrap metal which had caused a large smoke plume above the ship in the dry dock.Working alongside partner agencies such as the Environment Agency, Public Health England, Southampton City Council and the Coastguard, the crews have also been assisted by the Port agencies to remove scrap metal from the ship.All persons are accounted for and no injuries have currently been reported with paramedics standing by on the scene.Initial crews from Southampton fire stations were joined by appliances from the New Forest and Service Headquarters before relief crews were arranged to take over and work into the night to resolve this incident.
