Residential Fire – Southampton
Crews were called to a report of a fire this morning in the laundry room at a residential care home on Southampton Road, Cadnam. We believe one of the industrial tumble dryers caught fire. This will be investigated further, but we are not currently treating the incident as suspicious. The fire was contained to the laundry room and crews from Romsey, St Mary?s and Eastleigh extinguished the fire using two breathing apparatus, one hose reel and one jet.All 27 residents were promptly rescued from the building. We?d like to take the opportunity to praise the staff at the care home for their quick thinking and response as well as our crews for their efforts in ensuring all residents and staff were removed from the building safely. Thanks to the care home staff, the efficiency of their alarm system and their site management, their early warning system came into action which resulted in lives saved and the building.Crews will continue to assist the site management team to ensure the residents are kept safe. Due to the scale of the building and the containment of the fire all residents have been able to return to a communal area of the building. The stop message was received at 11:36.
