Printing press blaze in Southampton extinguished by firefighters

Hampshire firefighters extinguished a fire involving a printing press and liquid solvents at an industrial unit on Hazel Road in Itchen, Southampton.The building was evacuated and there were no casualties involved.Engines from across the county were sent to the incident including St Mary?s, Redbridge, Basingstoke, Hightown, Hardley, Headquarters, Fareham and Lyndhurst. Further support vehicles from Romsey, Eastleigh and Portchester were also in attendance along with partner agencies including SCAS.Firefighters worked hard to contain the blaze within the three-storey building. They used three main jets, Compressed Air Foam Solution (CAFS) jets, one ultra-high pressure lance and 28 sets of breathing of apparatus.The printing press was destroyed by the fire, but the rest of the building only suffered smoke damage.Crews remained on the scene to help with clearing the smoke before the stop message came back at 13:14 they left the scene.
