More than 50 firefighters tackle roof fire in Winchester high street
A large number of crews from multiple stations were called to tackle a fire on the roof of a three-storey office building in Winchester high street.Ten fire appliances were on the scene at the height of the incident, the Ultra High Pressure Lance, the Aerial Ladder Platform and several other support vehicles were also needed. Vehicles came from Winchester, Eastleigh, St Mary?s, Redbridge, Portchester, Hightown, Romsey, Alton, Beaulieu, Basingstoke, Petersfield, Wickham, Andover, Southsea and Rushmoor fire stations.Relief crews were required and surrounding roads were closed into the evening as the large number of vehicles tackled the fire in the building currently being renovated and covered in scaffolding.40 sets of breathing apparatus, eight jets and two Ultra High Pressure Lances were used over the course of the incident.Throughout the night the incident was scaled down to one fire appliance before the stop message came in at 08:36 with our Fire Investigation team due to attend the scene.
