Island firefighters called to second bungalow blaze of the day
Crews from Newport, Ryde, Shanklin and Cowes were called at 16:25 this afternoon to a shed fire which had spread to the roof of a nearby bungalow on Woodside Avenue in Newchurch.
The property was well alight with the aerial ladder platform required to help tackle the flames.
Firefighters tackled the blaze using 16 sets of breathing apparatus, four jets and three hose reels as the electrical supply to the property was isolated.
The fire was surrounded but due to a partial roof collapse two crews remain on the scene damping down hotspots and will return to reinspect the property throughout the night.
The roof, first and ground floor have been damaged by the fire with the ground-floor also suffering water damage.
The stop message came in at 21:55 when crews left the scene.
