Island firefighters called out to late-night laundrette blaze
Shanklin firefighters were called to a launderette on Newport Road in Lake at shortly before half 11 last night following an alarm sounding.
The on-call crew noticed the smell of burning and smoke issuing from one of the business park units, before requesting further support from Sandown, Ventnor, Ryde and Newport.
The fire involving three tumble dryers was extinguished by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus using hose reel jets and ventilation fans to clear smoke.
