Firefighters called to refuse fire in Fareham
Firefighters were called in the early hours of the morning to a refuse fire at a Waste Transfer Site on Down End Road, Fareham.Fire engines from Fareham, Cosham, Wickham, Southsea and further support vehicles were called to the scene at 04:02.The blaze involved 100 tonnes of waste in an open fronted covered storage unit and was tackled with 19 sets of breathing apparatus, compressed air foam solution and hose reels.Firefighters worked to contain contaminated water to protect the environment following advice from the Environment Agency.Relief crews from Havant and Bishops Waltham attended later in the morning so that the firefighters first on the scene could stand down. Crews then worked to dampen down the scene with the stop message coming in at 13:17.
