Fire – Southampton

Firefighters from Hightown and St Mary’s were called to a fire in a first floor kitchen of a block of flats in the early hours of this morning. One male was rescued from flat by crews, one female self rescued before our arrival. Three further persons were rescued from neighbouring flat via 13.5m ladder from first floor balcony and a further eight persons led to safety from building by firefighters. Two casualties were treated at scene and taken to hospital by South Central Ambulance Service. Firefighters used six set of breathing apparatus, two jets, two hosereels and a positive pressure ventilation fan during the incident. Several 999 calls were received by Fire Control staff at 0229 and the stop message came in at 0407. The cause is currently under investigation.
