Early morning wake up call for family without working smoke alarms

Crews from Fareham and Eastleigh were called to Westminster Gardens in Fareham in the early hours of Monday morning to a fire in the ground floor of a house. The fire appeared to have been started by a mobile phone charger. The smoke alarms were not working as they had no batteries and the families only way to escape would have been through the fire. The family ? consisting of two adults and a thirteen-year-old female ? were alerted to the fire when the daughter noticed an orange glow coming from downstairs. Firefighters used four breathing apparatus?, one hose reel jet, one main jet, and a ventilation fan to extinguish the fire and make the scene safe. The family went into the care of SCAS and taken to hospital. The stop message came in at 02:31.Read our advice on smoke alarms here: bit.ly/HFRSSmokeAlarm
