Domestic fire – Basingstoke

Firefighters rescued an eight year old boy from a first floor bathroom window with a ladder during a maisonette fire.He was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene and taken to hospital by South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS).Crews also rescued two cats while two others remain unaccounted for.Four crews from Basingstoke and Odiham attended along with support vehicles and a Basingstoke aerial ladder platform. Firefighters used two sets of breathing apparatus, two jets, a hose reel and tactical ventilation.The boy closed the door to the bathroom which helped protect him from the fire.The fire damaged the ground floor, kitchen, hall and storage area of the two storey maisonettes that were above a parade of shops.The stop message was at 21:40.A joint fire and police investigation is currently underway.
