Bungalow blaze tackled by Eastleigh firefighters
More than thirty firefighters were called to a bungalow fire on Leigh Road in Eastleigh. Crews from Eastleigh, Winchester, St Mary?s and Redbridge alongside support vehicles from other stations including the Aerial Ladder Platform, were called just before 5pm. Three casualties were taken to hospital by South Central Ambulance Service as Hampshire Police closed the road due to the number of emergency vehicles in attendance. Seven Newfoundland dogs were removed from the property and examined by a vet. Two of the dogs are being treated for burns to their head and spine. Firefighters used 12 sets of breathing apparatus, three jets and three hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. The roof and the ground floor of the house suffered 75% fire damage as well as extensive smoke damage. The stop message came in at 20:18. Fire investigators established that the cause of the fire was accidental due to radiated heat from an electric heater being positioned too close to a bed in the ground floor bedroom.
