Bookshop blaze in Southampton tackled by fire crews

Firefighters were called to a large blaze inside a bookshop on Above Bar Street in Southampton.Appliances from St Mary?s, Redbridge, Hightown, Eastleigh, Service Headquarters and Fareham fire stations attended the incident which saw thick black smoke emanating from the shop.The store was safely evacuated and there were no reports of any injuries.The fire in the ground floor of the four-storey building was tackled with 30 sets of breathing apparatus, three jets, two hose reel jets, the Aerial Ladder Platform and tactical ventilation.A fire investigation will take place alongside Hampshire Police who closed nearby roads during the incident.The stop message came in at 15:41.
