Accidental roof fire requires cross-border response

50 firefighters from across Rushmoor, Basingstoke, Yateley, HQ, Eastleigh, Tadley, Alresford, Petersfield, and Surrey Fire and Rescue Service were mobilised to a domestic fire on Cranmore Lane in Aldershot early this morning. On arrival, smoke and flames were seen issuing from the roof space of the three-storey detached property. All the occupants had evacuated the building and the road was closed whilst emergency service vehicles worked. By 04:00 the roof was fully involved in the fire with crews tackling the flames with hose reel jets, main jets, and a turntable ladder from Surrey FRS. British Red Cross and South Central Ambulance Service were also on scene. Relief efforts were put in place around 06:00 as the fire had been brought under control with crews cutting away the roof space and damping down any hotspots with one hose reel jet and an ultra high pressure lance. The stop message came in at 08:28. The roof suffered 50% fire damage. The fire was caused by accidental ignition and a reinspection of the area will be carried out later in the morning.
