Audit: its role in the Fire Service

Audit and assessment in the fire service

Each year, in accordance with the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014, the statement of accounts for Hampshire Fire and Rescue Authority is independently audited. The auditors issue a letter summarising their key findings. Those from recent years are available on the annual audit letters webpage. We are proud that since the Authority was established in 1997 we have never received a “qualified” audit opinion.

Until several years ago, the Government carried out further assessments of the quality of services provided by local authorities. The reports from these are available on the comprehensive performance assessment and the comprehensive area assessment webpages.

We have also received awards and accreditation which recognise our commitment to best practice. Further details about these can be found on the awards and accreditation webpage.
