Working alongside our Solent NHS Trust colleagues, the station based near Cosham High Street, will be opening its appliance bay doors to members of the public who want to grab a jab.
Following on from the successful pop-up clinics held at both Hightown and St Mary’s fire stations in Southampton, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service continues to support our health partners deliver vaccinations, helping to protect our communities.
Throughout the vaccination roll-out, Basingstoke Fire Station has been transformed into a vaccine hub, with a number of firefighters volunteering to administer the jabs to help the programme, with the station remaining fully operational and crews ready to respond to incidents.
On Friday those local to Cosham can visit the station, without an appointment, from midday until 6pm. There is no parking available at the Wayte Street site, so please arrive on foot.
Stephanie Clark, Clinical Lead for the Portsmouth Vaccination Centre at Solent NHS Trust, said:
“It is great news for our communities that we can continue to offer COVID-19 vaccinations at pop-up clinics around the city. We want to reach as many people as possible to ensure everyone has the opportunity to have the vaccine.
“If you’re in the area on Friday 30 July and wish to receive your vaccine, please drop in to Cosham Fire Station where you will be welcomed by our friendly team of volunteers and clinicians who will be on hand to make getting the jab as easy as possible.”
Group Manager for Portsmouth, Andy Weeks, said:
“We’ve worked with Solent NHS Trust throughout the pandemic and we are pleased to be working with their team at Cosham Fire Station on Friday as they continue the roll-out of COVID-19 vaccinations.
“Fire stations have an important role to play within our communities and we urge everyone who lives nearby to make the most of this opportunity.
“We can reassure everyone that the fire station will remain fully operational at all times.”
Those who wish to receive their second dose of the AstraZeneca or Pfizer vaccine can only do so if it has been eight weeks since their first dose.
Getting the second dose is vital to getting longer lasting and maximum protection offered by the vaccines, with recent research also showing they are highly effective against the Delta/Indian strain of the virus.
Second doses of the Moderna vaccine are being offered at St James’ Hospital in Portsmouth.
Vaccines are offered on a first come, first served basis and there may be a short wait for people to receive their vaccine.
If you cannot attend the walk-in clinic, pre-booked appointments are also available at one of the mass vaccination centres across Hampshire and the IOW by visiting www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination or by calling 119, free of charge. Alternatively, people can contact their GP or find a full list of walk-in clinics available throughout the region on the Hampshire, Southampton and Isle of Wight CCG website.
Whilst visiting the fire stations for a vaccination, people are reminded to follow the ‘hands, face, space’ guidance to help control the virus.
