What were you doing before you started with the Prince’s Trust team programme?
“The course was suggested to me by the local job centre as I had just moved to the area and didn’t know anybody. Before moving, I’d been out of work for a little while since college.”
What did you want to gain from undertaking the team programme?
“Coming into the course I wanted to find a stable group of friends as I didn’t know anyone. Also, I wanted to brush up on my teamwork skills.”
How did you find the fire station input into the course?
“I really enjoyed working alongside some of the firefighters during my work experience and on the team programme.”
Have you enjoyed any specific parts of the Team Programme?
“I enjoyed the residential part as we all bonded really quickly. The Community project was also so rewarding to do.
My work experience with the–Sue Ryder charity shop was a highlight and also the work experience time I spent with the fire service teams – WhiteWatch at Basingstoke, and Eastleigh at Headquarters. I even got to go on the ALP (Aerial Ladder Platform) as I like heights!
What does the next chapter look like for you?
“I’m considering volunteering with Fire Cadets or going back to the Sue Ryder charity shop where I did my work placement.”
What would you say to a friend who was thinking about joining the programme?
“To anyone thinking of joining, I would say, just go for it. You might be nervous at the start going into a group with strangers but at the end of it, it’s worth it and you’ll come out with some really good friends.”
