What were you doing before you started with the Prince’s Trust team programme?
“I used to be chilling with the wrong crowd and always getting in trouble for anti-social behaviour. I’d just left college as I didn’t think it was for me.”
What made you want to undertake the team programme?
“I was at the Police Station and one of the Police Officers told me about the programme coming to the island and advised me to join. The Police Officer had dealt with me before and I trusted her that the course would be worth doing.”
What did you want to gain from undertaking the team programme?
“I wanted to gain some work experience to help get a job or into a course by the end of the programme. I really enjoyed my work experience for charity Aspire Ryde where I helped soundproof a room for aspiring musicians to use, which I’m really proud of.”
How did you find the Fire Station input to your programme?
“Ryde Fire Station taught us all about RTC’s (road traffic collisions) and one of the team was picked to be cut out of a car, whilst the firefighters explained all their procedures. It was hair raising and scary to watch someone being cut out of a car. I don’t drive but always had the idea of looking forward to racing everywhere as quickly as I can when I pass my test, but this experience has made me think about it really seriously and I won’t be going as fast as I planned.”
How do you feel coming to the end of the programme?
“I didn’t realise how quickly it would go, I’m really sad that it’s coming to an end but then I’m also really excited about the next chapter.”
What does the next chapter look like for you?
“I’ve got a job lined up with a window cleaner to get some money behind me, but my dream would be to be able to earn enough to buy and do up property to sell on.”
What would you say to a friend who was thinking about joining the programme?
“You get to meet people you wouldn’t expect to be meeting, you get to do work experience you get to go on a trip with everyone it’s really good, I’m glad I joined.”
