Ross’s background before he joined the fire service was in hospitality, starting as a bartender and working his way up to general manager. As a retained Firefighter and this means that he was able to provide fire cover when he is available based on work commitments. This flexibility ensures that the community of Yateley can have an operational crew 24/7.
During COVID-19 pandemic, he worked as a vaccinator at Basingstoke Fire Station where he had the pleasure of giving local celebrity Alan Titchmarsh his first vaccination! This had a personal significance to Ross as he was his late Granddad’s favourite television presenter.
I joined the fire service to make a difference and help the people of my community; as a young boy I always wanted to be firefighter. I wanted a job that gave me satisfaction and made me feel like I am doing something worthwhile. Being in the fire service makes me feels good about myself, I enjoy working as part of a team and have made lifelong friends. I love it more every day, the buzz of a fire shout will never grow old, even if I do!!
