  • 1690 - the first manual fire engine at Alresford was kept in the tower of the Church
  • 1858 - a Horse drawn Fire Engine was purchased with 160ft of hose for £135.00 and was stored at the Swan Hotel
  • 1879 - Alresford Volunteer Fire Brigade was formed and it was headed by Captain Marx
  • 1881 - Town Trust built a fire station in Broad Street, this was in use until 1940 when the existing station was opened, and is still use today

The crash happened at 06:42 and four engines from Fordingbridge and Redbridge, and Dorset and Wiltshire, attended with specialist vehicles. Seven engines were sent to Southampton General Hospital, but the small fire was confined to an electrical cupboard in the north block. Two carbon dioxide extinguishers were used to put out the fire, with two fans used for clearing smoke. The fire was believed to have been caused by an overloaded inverter.
