Local Area Agreement and Partnership Working

What is the Local Area Agreement?

The Hampshire Local Area Agreement (LAA) is a 3 year agreement between partners in Hampshire and the Government to improve lives and conditions in Hampshire communities.

The Agreement focuses the attention of partners on 8 priority outcomes drawn from the Hampshire Community Strategy and the 11 District Community Strategies. The LAA runs from April 2006-March 2009.

The LAA is an opportunity to strengthen partnership working to deliver real improvements against these priorities. It is also an important means to work with the Government to achieve greater flexibility around funding and to remove barriers to delivery.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service involvement with LAA

HFRS is working with partner agencies within the LAA in two key areas to improve the lives of people who live, work and travel in the county.

Key Areas

We have targets within the LAA to reduce the number of deliberate (arson) fires in the county and we have established a dedicated Arson Task Force with the Police to help in this area.

Arson Reduction

The second target area is to assist the Ambulance Service to improve the speed of response to medical emergencies. We are achieving this with the aid of six co-responder schemes based at RDS (retained duty systems) stations and using trained HFRS personnel to respond to these incidents.
