Children

Bedrooms...

Many children’s bedrooms these days will be an electronic Aladdin’s cave with hi-fis, televisions and computers. All of these are potential ignition sources so consider putting smoke alarms in your children’s bedrooms.

BBQs and naked flames...

Make sure your children know not to play with fire.

When using barbecues, or heating appliances with naked flames, keep your children away - make sure you know where they are and what they are doing.

Keep lighters and matches out of sight and reach of children.

Consider the use of 'child safe' lighters.

Fascination with Fire...

As children grow up a certain proportion of them we know will have a fascination with fire. In most cases they will grow out of this with no harm caused. However a small proportion will take this fascination to extremes.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service run a Fire Setters Intervention Scheme where trained personnel are available to talk through this problem with the child and their parents.
