The Service
Procurement and supplies...
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) is committed to securing genuine sustainable products and services whether required by law or not in all its activities. This will involve looking at goods and services in a way that achieves value for money on a whole life basis while generating benefits for the fire service, society and the economy, whilst minimising damage to the environment.
This will involve looking at specification, materials used, manufacturing and production processes used, logistics and delivery models, in service operation and costs, maintenance, reuse, recycling and disposal options.
The service undertakes wherever possible to follow a sound environmental management policy balancing environmental, social and economic elements so that its activities comply with all applicable environmental legislation and regulations, and that any services and products that are procured, are capable of being used and ultimately disposed of, in ways that are appropriate from an environmental perspective.
HFRS comply with relevant obligations under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2002/96/EC.
HFRS have launched initiatives to exercise understanding internally of how employees can reduce their carbon footprint while at work by promoting the use of recycled paper wherever possible, using double sided and monochrome printing when suitable. Other initiatives include reducing power consumption, adopting practices such as remote working, and switch off policies. These are all progressed through our in-house environmental impact co-ordinator.
The service also currently have contracts in place for the recycling of procured products such as uniform and clothing, batteries, cardboard, printer cartridges, brass fittings, and are continually reviewing our operations to do more.
HFRS aspires to work with companies and individuals which share our aims and objectives and seek to reflect these in their own policies.
