High volume pumping

Wednesday 30 September 2009

Fawley Power Station, New Forest

Who should attend? This day is primarily aimed at high volume pumping (HVP) operators, instructors and managers.

PPE requirement: Protection from the elements for the external practical sessions and head and eye protection to conform with site regulations. (Head and eye protection can be provided if required)

Please note that this event has now taken place

High volume pumps have been successfully deployed nationally for both flood water removal and fire-fighting water provision.

The HVP event will take place at the Fawley Power Station site which is alongside Southampton Water and the Solent.

Martin Blunden, the Chief Fire Officers Association lead on HVPs, will open the day with a round-up of what is happening on the national scene as New Dimension assets transfer into fire and rescue service ownership.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, along with other Services within the South East region (and Dorset from the South West region as a close neighbour) have experimented with a number of refinements and additions to the HVP system to increase its range of uses and these will be demonstrated as part of the practical element of the day.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service has recently commissioned an HVP and a representative will present a case study on designing, and implementing a bespoke HVP capability into a fire and rescue service, the plus points and the pitfalls and how this might sit with the national arrangements.

Hytrans, the Dutch company who have provided the ND HVP units are hoping to attend to cover developments within the industry.
