Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service Fairness and Dignity Statement

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service is committed to establishing and maintaining a working environment to ensure the fair treatment and professional and personal dignity of all its employees. No employee will be treated less favourably on the grounds of race, colour, nationality, national or ethnic origin, religion, gender, marital/parental status, family ties, sexual orientation, trade union or political beliefs, age, disability or any other condition which cannot be justified in job related terms.

We are committed, wherever practicable, to achieving and maintaining a workforce representative of the communities we serve. Selection decisions in recruitment and promotion will be made on ability using objective, job-related criteria. We will monitor the implementation of the policy and undertake positive action (not positive discrimination) to address areas of under-representation wherever possible.

Overall responsibility for the application of the policy rests with the Chief Officer and senior management. However, all employees of Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service have a personal responsibility and obligation to uphold the policy. Any acts of discrimination, including harassment, are potentially unlawful and will be the grounds for disciplinary action. Any serious breach of the policy will be treated as gross misconduct and may lead to dismissal. This could result in the person responsible for the discriminatory act having an award made against them in an Employment Tribunal.

Employees who believe they have been unfairly discriminated against or harassed are strongly encouraged to raise this through their line manager, member of the Employee relations team or the Equality & Diversity team at HQ. The complaint will be investigated and appropriate action taken. Employees who become aware of discrimination against, or harassment of, others are strongly encouraged to advise the HR Manager who will arrange for this to be investigated and appropriate action taken.

Service Order 1/6/2 Fairness and Dignity at Work refers.

Further information, clarification or advice is available from the HR Team, & Employee Relations or the Equality and Diversity team.
