The Service
Policies & Initiatives
The EIR came into force in January 2005 and allows people to request environmental information from public authorities, for example, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) and those bodies carrying out a public function and privatised utility companies.
The regulations cover, for example, information on air, water, soil, land emissions, policies and plans, state of human health and safety, contamination of the food chain and cultural sites and built structures.
Again there are exemptions to what and how information should be released. It should be remembered that a breach of this regulation may lead to prosecution.
