Group areas

The Southampton group is on the south coast of Hampshire. It covers an area of 48 square miles and has a population of approximately 305,190 people.
The group extends beyond Southampton city into areas such as Hamble, and the population shows a mix of all ages, religions and cultural backgrounds.
The centre of Southampton has a high number of people living there and a large amount of rented accommodation which together increase the risk of fires.
There are many areas of industry, busy docks, large hospitals, two universities and a large road and rail network. All of these have their own risks.
We will focus on reducing the risks that these people and places face, using the resources we have available and working closely with our ‘Safe City’ partners. Safe City is a community project where we work with other organisations such as the police, NHS, social services and so on, to help reduce crime and create an environment where people feel safe.
