With our developing capability to get rescuers into more extreme situations (collapsed structures, contaminated scenes, suspended on ropes, confined spaces etc) it became clear that paramedics are not trained for these situations and even if they were they would not always have the medical skills that may be needed.

Hampshire has developed links with the local BASICS doctor service to help in this area. A group of the BASICS doctors trained and experienced in pre hospital trauma care are being trained to work alongside our specialist teams in these ‘extreme access’ situations in:

Additional PPE and specialist medical equipment has been provided by HFRS.

This initiative is carried out voluntarily by the doctors and provides the highest level of care for people who find themselves in the worst possible situations.
