Personnel Reserve System (PRS)

The Personnel Reserve aims to maximise the potential of our operational establishment, through the carefully managed movement of firefighters from night shifts (when riding in excess of standard +1 crewing levels) and subsequently replacing them on to a coinciding day shift, these individuals can be utilised more effectively for service delivery.

Such a system will also support and facilitate additional service requirements such as Training and Personal Development.

The implementation of the Personnel Reserve has now been formally handed over to the Central and Support Services Manager (Dan Tasker) who will assume overall responsibility for this process.

Daily line management of the seconded personnel will be undertaken by both the Support Services Supervisor (John Davenport) and the Support Services Co-ordinator (Crew Manager Nick Derham). All wholetime (continuously crewed stations) operational firefighters can be selected to resource the daily personnel reserve (up to 24 persons) and will receive no less than three months notice in relation to this detachment.

In order to adhere to the implementation plan the first ‘notice of secondment’ was issued in April 2007, therefore resulting in the first redeployments in July 2007  However, some personnel have already volunteered to forego their 3 month notice period and as such have already been re-deployed accordingly (for more detail refer to the next issue of Exchange).

The Personnel Reserve Management Team (PRMT) has compiled the relevant Service Order/Policy. SO/7/20 is now complete and available for general viewing.

Station briefings are well under way and the majority of operational personnel have already received information appertaining to the new Personnel Reserve System (PRS). However, some watches still require input and this will be forthcoming within the coming months prior to any secondments taking place.

The PRMT will also be addressing all Managers at the upcoming 2007/2008 Service Managers Seminars and more information will be publicised within future Exchange, IRMP Extra publications and don't forget to check out the Personnel Reserve Bulletin on this page.
