Welfare Service
The Occupational Health and Safety Welfare Adviser, Geraldine Kennedy, is a qualified therapist and, when appropriate, provides a useful link to external agencies.
Service Order 8/8/1 provides details about the Welfare service - examples include
- A confidential and professional service to HFRS in support of maintaining a healthy staff and reducing the number of working days lost to illness by the use of avoiding techniques and rehabilitation following absence.
- Assisting HFRS personnel to develop coping strategies to ease or resolve difficulties whether related to the work or home environment.
- Where appropriate and with consent and approval from an individual, to make referrals and seek support from other organisations, ie Fire Services National Benevolent Fund, CSA, CAB, Social Services, financial institutions and advisers, Relate, etc.
- Financial problems - referrals in cases of hardship and advice about managing debt, relationship difficulties related to work, social or home life
- Information and practical advice about drug and alcohol use
- Liaising with Occupational Health, identifying any dual needs to ensure that the individual receives appropriate support.
