The Service
Corporate Planning Process
In line with other fire and rescue services, Hampshire invests significantly in information and communications technology (ICT) in support of an efficient and cost-effective service. In practice, this means supplying telephones, computer workstations, radios, pagers, mobile phones, electronic mail and a host of business applications including access to the internet for staff at all premises and increasingly to staff who are out and about in the course of their duties. An important part of the department's work is the development and maintenance of the telecommunications network which enables staff to communicate and share information across Hampshire and beyond.
In addition to facilities provided internally to staff, the Information Services department supplies an infrastructure for communication with the outside world, primarily via telephones and the world wide web, but also via other technologies such as electronic mail and video conferencing.
The department comprises twenty-one staff who between them provide technical and user support, including 24/7 emergency callout cover, management of contracts with third party suppliers, a help desk service plus a wide range of training and advice.
