The Service
Corporate Planning Process
Previously we have published our Plan in hard copy and placed it in libraries and other information points. As a result of this publication method less than five people contacted us for more information/ clarification. Last year we took the bold step of publishing our plan on our website. Between the 30th June 2002 and 23rd April 2003 we received over 113,780 access hits to the Corporate Plan. This level of access, we believe, justifies our new format.
The problem of printing typically glossy annual plans is that they very quickly become out of date – and it can be an expensive and wasteful process. We have therefore decided to ‘publish’ our Corporate Plan on our website with the principal aim of making it truly dynamic and responsive to current needs and information. So, if you are reading a ‘printed-off’ version of our Plan (or even part of it), please be aware that a more up to date version may already be available on our website! Our website address is: www.hantsfire.gov.uk
Another significant advantage of publishing the Plan on the website is that we can use it to link and point to a very wide range of other relevant information and supporting documents. This will be of particular help to those readers and stakeholders who want to pursue a particular subject or issue in much more detail, for example, new entrants to the Service (uniformed and non-uniformed) report how useful and informative they find the web-site to gain more information about our Service.
For those who would prefer to read the Plan in a more conventional format we have created a core document-(create and add link) that forms the backbone text to the web-based version. This document has been split into manageable sections for downloading and is available in both Adobe Acrobat and Word format.
The Plan attempts to satisfy the different needs of a variety of stakeholders including members of the Hampshire Fire and Rescue Authority and our own Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service personnel. For this reason, we have deliberately structured the Plan to reflect the way we approach and manage the strategic planning process-(create and add link)
We use our ‘strategic planning process and performance management framework’-(create and add link) as an alternative method of navigating around the Plan. Last year we said that the Plan is a working document and that it will never be finished - we were right! Last year alone the new format allowed us to make over a hundred alterations and updates to the information displayed.
