Grayshott achieves Beacon Station status...

16 Nov 2009

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service is pleased to announce that Grayshott Fire Station has achieved Beacon Station status, and is one of two retained stations to be the first to achieve this status since Hampshire introduced the award scheme in April 2008.

Hampshire developed the Beacon Station scheme to acknowledge that the Service can learn from ‘high performers’ by sharing best practice and that greater flexibility could be achieved if high performance is maintained.

The scheme identifies stations that, over a number of areas within a range of performance management measures, consistently demonstrate excellence. It then provides the achieving station with the resources to share their best practice with others, as well as leading to more flexibility in the way they work. The overall objective of the scheme is to lead to improvement in the Service’s performance.

Grayshott Fire Station has received the award for consistently high performance during the six months from February to July 2009 and therefore becomes a Beacon Station from 1 November 2009 to 31 October 2010.

Pete Norman, Officer in Charge at Grayshott Fire Station, commented on their achievement:

“We were delighted to be awarded Beacon Station status. I attribute the success to the diverse attitude and enthusiasm of the crew; we participate in a broad spectrum of initiatives which include operational response and community safety. None of this could have been achieved without the assistance of our group manager, training instructor and administrative  support. I am hopeful we can grow on this success and play our part in helping the Service to achieve its corporate objectives”.

The key to Grayshott’s success will be shared across the Service so that improvements can be achieved right across the county.

Deputy Chief Officer Dave Curry, Director of Service Delivery, said:

“I congratulate Grayshott Fire Station on becoming one of two retained stations to be the first to achieve Beacon Station status. This award is testament to the hard work and commitment shown by everyone at the station.

“The Beacon Stations scheme was developed and introduced under our Performance Management Framework to recognise how we can learn from each others successes. I look forward to seeing other stations achieving the status in the future, and to the real improvements that will be seen as a result to the service we deliver.”
