A family is lucky to be alive after smoke alarms alerted them to a fire at a property in Gosport.
Control Room operators received a 999 emergency call at 05:07am on Tuesday, February 9 to reports of a fire in Bramber Road, Gosport.
Firefighters from Gosport and Fareham fire stations arrived at the scene to find a fire in a four bedroom property measuring 6m x 6m with all occupants accounted for.
Officer in Charge, Station Manager Al Heinrich, said:
“Crews arrived to find a severe fire in a triple storey, end of terrace property with all the occupants accounted for. It appears that the family was awoken to the sound of their smoke alarm sounding and managed to evacuate the property rapidly.
“This was a severe fire which spread quickly through the property and without the operating smoke alarm this fire could have had devastating consequences.”
Hampshire Constabulary is treating this fire as suspicious and a fire investigation will be carried out by the Hampshire Arson Task Force.
In attendance at this incident were two crews from Gosport and two crews from Fareham fire stations as well as the British Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Service (FESS) which has trained volunteers able to assist people affected by fire or similar incidents.
Six breathing apparatus and two jets were used and the property was 100% affected by either fire or smoke.
The time of stop was received at 06:44am.
