To help Hampshire businesses cope with major changes to fire safety legislation, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service is hosting a series of free Risk Assessment Workshops to ensure companies are complying with the new fire safety law. Over the coming months, workshops will be run at a wide range of venues across the county and businesses are encouraged to attend as part of the Service’s pledge to “Make Hampshire Safer.”
Although these seminars are free to attend they are likely to be heavily subscribed and places will be allocated on a ‘first come first served’ basis. To be sure of reserving your place for a two hour session, please contact the Business Education team at Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service on 023 8062 6890 or email business.education@hantsfire.gov.uk. Alternatively you can check availability and book online for courses based at the following locations (view the options box on each of the pages to check available dates and to make a booking):
Hampshire Fire and Rescue’s Business Education team is committed to assisting companies to fulfil their legal and moral obligations to staff and employees. Hampshire firms, large and small, are urged to check that they have the necessary steps in place to protect their staff and premises from the risk of fire for the sake of both their workers and the viability of their business.
The workshops follow the success of regular seminars held by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service since the new law came into effect last Autumn. Many employers across the county still do not fully understand the fire safety regulations, which leave bosses facing two-year jail sentences if they fail to comply.
The new law affects all non-domestic premises, their occupants and responsible persons. Under the regulations, businesses need to appoint a ‘responsible person’, usually the employer, to manage any fire risk on their premises. Full reliance is placed on the fire Risk Assessment carried out by employers. If they fail to make an adequate assessment or to take sufficient fire safety measures and a fire breaks out, they risk hefty fines, a prison sentence in the case of individuals, or both.
So now is the time to make fire safety in your business - your business!
