Progression throughout your career
The Training Centre within Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service is located at the Service Headquarters complex in Eastleigh. It was opened by Her Majesty The Queen in 1985. The centre is responsible for delivering high quality and structured training to HFRS employees and other agencies.

The aim of the Training Department is to ensure that all students who pass through our doors are given the requisite skills, knowledge and understanding to support our Corporate Aim to ‘Make Life Safer’.
The Training Centre at Eastleigh has a wide range of high quality training facilities that enable the student to learn and develop in an environment that supports both theoretical and practical aspects of Training.
Each training room is fitted out with high specification audio visual equipment that allows the delivery of multi media presentations utilising a range of software applications. These include smart board screens for interactive application, overhead projection and audio facilities for delivering Powerpoint and DVD presentations and in addition each has internet and intranet access. In addition each is fitted with WiFi connectivity and air conditioning.
In total there are 6 training rooms available in the main buildings; training rooms 1 & 2 are on the first floor of the link building, they can individually cater for class sizes of 25, however by the removal of the partition they can be combined into a single lecture theatre capable of accommodating up to 50 candidates.
Training Room 3 is allocated to Business Education and can provide seating for 30 students. Training Rooms 4, 5 and 6 are located in the ‘fire station’ side of the complex. Training room 4 is predominantly for Breathing Apparatus Courses and Training Room 5 ids the allocated resource for Initial Trainee Courses. Training Room 6 is the largest of the Station Training Rooms and can cater for 40 students comfortably. All Training Rooms can be booked by all functions, dependant on availability, for meetings or other suitable events. Those wishing to book facilities should contact; training.support@hantsfire.gov.uk
The Command Suite is the most recent acquisition which provides a bespoke training facility for the provision of Incident Command Training for Level 1, 2 and 3 courses simultaneously
The appliance room has an area that is used for rope pack training and is also fitted with a confined space facility which is used for partial set removal drills during BA Training.
The fitness and wellbeing of our staff is a high priority so our gym equipment is of a high standard offering both aerobic and resistance equipment to suite all standards. This equipment is for the use on a specific course however it is available to all HFRS staff, and staff are encouraged to use the equipment either during the allotted free use times or by accessing a variety of programmed training sessions. Use of the equipment and the training sessions are free to HFRS staff and all that is required is an induction session from one of our lead Fitness Training Instructors and that you follow the gym etiquette rules.
There are large changing and showering facilities with allocated lockers for all courses, there is also the provision of small lockers for the safe storage of valuables for those using the gym facilities in their own time.
The Wessex Block is predominantly used for fire behaviour courses, however other training events can take place dependent on availability of rooms. The block consists of two training rooms on the first floor similar to other training rooms but with standard audio visual equipment, however still able to deliver Powerpoint DVD etc, but without the facility of a smart board. There is also a small mess area for the use of students.
The fire behaviour training area is totally enclosed and consists of two attack units and two demonstration units, used to provide fire fighting training for initial and subsequent training. During the training year 2009/2010 a 'fire house' is to be built on the site which will allow fire fighting training and tactical ventilation in a multi-level unit.
All students attending any of our courses should be confident in the knowledge that they will be attending a learning event that will support them and take into account their own development needs. Students must also be aware that learning is a two way process and they are expected to fully participate and any training event they have been nominated to attend. In order that students are aware of our, and their, expectations a Student Charter has been produced.
